Absinthe's Neverland Premiere‏

Oh...before I get going, Laura Hadar and Corey Bolo hosted the premiere of Peepshow behind the Salt Lake City shop FICE on a DIY projector against a building. It was quite cool. Absinthe loves Utah, and Utah loves Absinthe. We are lucky enough that they have premiered their movies in Salt Lake and Park City (usually days apart) for several years now. Justin Hostynek and Patrick Armbruster have consistently put out amazing videos. While videos like Pop, Futureproof and Optimistic have blown minds and upped the ante, last year's Ready got a resounding "meh" from audiences. However, the team pooled their resources and Neverland has once again put Absinthe at the top of the heap. Salt Lake City is in an enviable position for many reasons, not the least of which is the amazing terrain and huge talent pool. The greatest thing for me is going to these movies and having all the kids rally around their friends like Cale Zima (local favorite, sweetest kid in snowboarding!), Phil Da

Peepshow Premiere

First there was Misschief Films and Chunkyknit Productions. Then Misschief became Runway, and Amber and Alexis and Co. are on to different projects. Riders like Esther Preda, Desiree Melancon and Sara Phillips wanted to take the realm of women's riding films in a different direction. These girls get gnarly, and they want you to know. Peepshow is the new kid on the block, and are operating on the principle of "I get by with a little help from my friends." They don't have much for money, and they crash hard trying new urban combos, and unlike most movies, they leave all of the tough stuff in. It isn't like other movies, where you get a crash sequence, or a bail reel. You're seeing things as they happen, and you're seeing how hard it really is to back board a steep stair set, nosepress a concrete ledge, and land huge drops into deep powder (it's a lot harder than it seems!). The goal of this crew isn't to prove anything to the bros. It's to show w

Roxy giveaway: win a trip to Australia

Image
We share the good stuff here... so here we go! Enter to win a trip to Australia!! You have until November 15, 2009 to enter. Sorry, but the contest is only open to US ans Canadian residents of 18-35 yo. Check out ROXY.com for more details . While you're on their site, take a look at Roxy's fall 2009 lookbook . Here's one that will be a winner in the US and Europe this winter. Vests have been around this summer and if you haven't started yet to build your collection of various colors, sizes and textiles, choose a few that will complement the ones that you may already have so you can combine them and layer up. Layering and the loose/tight clothes combo are the trend driving this fall's fashion, and I love how comfortable this relaxed style feels and how chic it looks at the same time. This look combines a cotton sweater vest with a shorter vest in jean. I particularly like the details of the Multiple Choice Vest , which is a racerback sweater vest with wood buttons an

Kershnar x Volcom

Image
I love summer, don't get me wrong... but seeing stores changing their offerings to fall 2009 lines just brings excitement for winter! Ok, I may be getting a little ahead of myself. But from a fashion side of things, I just love being able to layer up. Fall and winter styles are my favs. Volcom has revealed its fall 2009 line up and as you can see, the 80's and punk rock looks will endure through this winter. I just love collaboration between artists and fashionware designers. Volcom featured artist series is just that. Here is a sick hoodie featuring artwork from Mike Kershnar. The hoodies is actually also part of Volcom's V-Co.logical series. Here's a close up on the artwork. The tiger is one of Kershnar's fav animals. He used to track tigers in Nepal with his father! Now available in black or white on Volcom's website . Mike Kershnar's art can be displayed on your wall, worn on a t-shirt or plastered on your skate deck. I just love his statement of purp

Phat Sound & Style All in 1

Image
Don't compromise! Just get them both: quality sound and style all in one. Here is the object of our desires. Earlier this year JBL launched its Roxy line of flashy headphones and earphones. I'll take mine riding as soon as I'm back on the snow (now being in France!), or for a cruise along the beach! These are for the Roxy Ladies out there who just love shredding to the sound of their fav tunez. I fell in love with these and got a pair in lime green after checking out the JBL & Roxy launch party back in May @ the Red Bull space in NYC and have been loving them since!!! Check out the rest of the collection on Roxy's website . From Roxy: JBL audio expertise, matched with the ROXY love of design, has resulted in these headphones, bringing you a new experience in listening to music. The plush ear pads keep you in comfort, as the 40mm drivers pound out amazing JBL sound. With rotating ear cups, you can fold the headphones up for compact storage. Use them, love them an

My vice is FICE

Image
Here's a report straight from Salt Lake City's art, fashion & lifestyle shop owned by Laura Hadar, called FICE. The boutique opened April 2008 and is one of SLC's sweetest shop-stops. Today, if you are not living in or cruising through one this major hub of the US snowboard scene, well, there are good news my friend: FICE is now online. Check out their website . I love going to boutiques. I love going to snowboard shops. When I get the opportunity to go to a snowboard lifestyle boutique in my neighborhood, it's pretty much the best thing ever. FICE has done a great job in a cool building in downtown SLC (It used to be a bike shop.) Being owned by Laura Hadar, it lends an instant "core" vibe, and she's definitely taken what she knows about snowboard-skate streetwear, and with her partner in crime Corey have stocked the store with plenty of hard to find goodies. Here are some hoodie goodies. Sorry for the phone pics, but that's what a trendspotter h

Sex-y-ness SELLS

Image
Married To The Mob brings on Part II of Spring 2009 collection. So hot and sexy, it sells! But.... hey!!! OMG double G! This photo shoot session reminds me of some good old days... The mood, vibe, location---and may I say EVERYTHING---about the photography supporting the intro of MOB's Spring fabulo-delicious designs remind me of this good ol' home session shoot taken in Boston round 2005! Here's a shot in a Boston apt, with your everyday gal Mayta. That knitted hat rules. Its vine green here, but I also found it in a burgundy color... I just love this hat. Check out Goorin 's model, which is close to this one. The tank top with the scorpion--even though I am cancer-- is from Urban Outfitters. The kicks were pre-releases of Gravis ' summer sneakers. And those pants.... ooooh so sweet with their waist band. So athletic looking cargos! H&M woman! And so are the pin stripe baggies in the pic below. Rock baggy pinstripes with a wife beater and... Do YOU know the

Your 2010 forecast!!?? Let's hear it!

Forum of sales

Image
Ladies, it is time to shop. Check out what Forum's got in the closet for you on sale up to 70% off at Dogfunk ! Shown above : Available in one of this winter's favorite color--Kelly Green--is Forum's Script full-zip hooded sweatshirt. Or check it out in white, black and process blue. I tried this baby on and loved the tailored cut. Best of all, it has a long cut and long sleeves ! I am getting tired of those too short sweatshirts that expose your back to that cold air. Having a long torso, this is something I am really liking in the new lines of hoodies and tees, which usually tend to be too short... and don't even think about putting them in the dryer or that's the end of it. On the warmer side, with sherpa fleece, is Forum's Craft full-zip hooded sweatshirt. Featuring that longer fit I just love, and a sick logo felt appliquƩ, this hoodie is available in white, as shown above , black and light blue. And how about adding some fur to this sick combo of kelly

Not Bad For A Girl

Image
Image Source: Addict.co.uk Let's fly to London! Where designer Karen Jane is the master mind behind Not Bad For a Girl™ line of Tees and Hoodies. As she puts it, her designs feature "boy heavy" lines and are strictly for the Supafemale™. Inspiration comes from the daily grind and speaks to all women who relate to the essence of this brand. How often have you heard the comment "not bad for a girl" while hanging out with the boys? I definitely was a tomboy when I was just a kid, and loved hanging out with my brother and his mates. Today, I still keep a bit of this in me, I like to show them boys we ladies can throw some sick stuff out there on the mountain, but I also have a special affinity for fashion, purple colored stuff--like this sick " Good Game Tee " shown abov e--, and accessories! There is an increasing number of ladies independent brands in streetwear fashion that speak to both the lady and the tomboy in us. Casual, yet loud, designs for style

From lift to lounge... the EESA way

Image
"There is no need to sacrifice comfort for style." That's what I love about EESA . EESA's Nord Shirt brings ya that "Howdy ma'am... look" !! Who can put this better other than the designers' themselves: "all dolled up like a triple scoop hot fudge sundae with whip cream, and walnuts"! I say it's hot and fudgy, yum! EESA hand builds their Sox using Acrylyester fiber technology and strategic silhouette construction. These comfy and cool looking socks are intended to regulate your feet's "micro-climate" by keeping them BOTH warm and dry!! The extra padding around the heel and up to the toebox will ensure max comfort in your boots. These will not bulk up and will not get your feet numb. Style and comfort can blend into the hottest design and EESA got the recipe right! ~Mayta

It's furry, it's trendy, it's sexy... it's Bootzwalla

Winter and snow call for fur! But of course, it must be faux or else. Accessorize with hot leg warmers, or should we call them Leg Covers, from Bootzwalla . Designer Lori Seliger developed this fun line of bell-bottom leggings, "helmets" (furry hats), purses and scarves using animal-friendly high quality faux-fur. Choose from a blend of cheerful colors and wild animal prints. This fashionable line has captured the attention of many celebrities including Cher, Jenny McCarthy and BeyoncƩ. Check out their website for more info on how you can get your own furry pair of Bootzwalla and rock them at your next apres-ski appearance. You're going to get so many of these "where did you get these?!" ~Mayta

A fashion report from ROXY

Your head is worth investing for!

Image
So you've got brains huh?! Well then, it may be worth looking into preserving this treasure. How about even spoiling it with a fancy helmet? Munich-based Bogner is the official outfitter of the German Olympic ski team. Founder Willy Bogner, a former Olympic skier, got his start more than 70 years ago by importing Norwegian skis. He then launched his own line of windbreakers and other fashionable outdoor apparel with his wife, Maria. The company, now run by their son Willy Bogner, Jr., 65, introduced the "Gold Rush" helmet as part of its winter line. The headgear features a shock-absorbent inner shell and suede padding that keeps your head cool and dry. This is actually Bogner's collaboration with Indigo Snow. They created the ultimate accessory, the lightweight, shock-absorbing helmet sells for $650. Indigo Snow also makes cobra and snake skin designs such as the Python pattern: But then there's the snake brown, the snake boa or the snake fire. Check them out by

There are many ways you can take part in this historical moment--the first African-American President of the US of A. How about doing it with style? If you missed out on the election day Obama Clutch Bag from Armando Javier Design--a mother and son company that works fine leather--you will probably have a chance to get the very likely coming soon next edition of the clutch featuring tomorrow's headlines. Rock it at your apres-ski party! The Brownie Point Leather Work Bag is pretty sick too. The front flap is 4 oz. Vegetable Tanned leather, finished in a medium sheen for super protection from snowy weather. Check out Lynda and Mando Zamora's blog: Association of Workers in Leather (AWL).
