Another Collab!! Tommy Hilfiger x Keith Haring

Gosh, I am totally loving these collabs between preppy brands and brilliant artists!! One of my favs, Keith Haring--who has been part of the street art movement since the early days of graffiti and making art "public and accessible," for all to enjoy by using the streets as galleries--has teamed up with Tommy Hilfiger to launch a limited edition footwear capsule collection. The result is a small collection named Footwear in limited edition, composed of sneakers and rain boots for men, women and kids, in a worldwide preview at colette.

Sick pic of Haring working on the Berlin wall (above). And sweet rain boots to walk through slushy snow ;) To shop online: visit the dedicate website. Gosh, I am going to need a new closet... This launch could take place nowhere other than our Colette store in Paris. Here's the word from their newsletter: "Keith Haring, both artist and activist, has a habit of using his art to serve important social causes, supporting research and caretaking organizations that fight against AIDS. It is with this goal that Tommy Hilfiger Corporate has associated with the Keith Haring Foundation and Artestar LLC."

This February 16th, 2010 was the 20th anniversary of Keith Haring's death. If you are in New York on May 16, join the Keith Haring foundation on their AIDS WALK. The Keith Haring Foundation was established in 1989 to assist AIDS-related and children's charities, and maintains the largest resource of archives on the late artist, Keith Haring.

An extract of Keith Haring's Bio: He was particularly inspired by the beauty and spontaneity of the graffiti he saw in the subways. Graffiti spoke of a world that was hip and streetwise, creative and spontaneous and underground--all that he admired and wanted to be. At the same time, he admired the technical mastery and calligraphic quality of the graffiti artists' 'tags.'

Keith's work and collaboration with graffiti artists were part of the 2009 exhibit at La Fondation Cartier in Paris on the art and history of graffiti.

These expos, which focus on the history and beauty of graffiti, and its influence on art today, are worth checking out. I actually got to go to this one and watched a short documentary on Keith. Really nicely put together.

Absinthe's Neverland Premiere‏

Oh...before I get going, Laura Hadar and Corey Bolo hosted the premiere of Peepshow behind the Salt Lake City shop FICE on a DIY projector against a building.

It was quite cool. Absinthe loves Utah, and Utah loves Absinthe. We are lucky enough that they have premiered their movies in Salt Lake and Park City (usually days apart) for several years now. Justin Hostynek and Patrick Armbruster have consistently put out amazing videos. While videos like Pop, Futureproof and Optimistic have blown minds and upped the ante, last year's Ready got a resounding "meh" from audiences. However, the team pooled their resources and Neverland has once again put Absinthe at the top of the heap.

Salt Lake City is in an enviable position for many reasons, not the least of which is the amazing terrain and huge talent pool. The greatest thing for me is going to these movies and having all the kids rally around their friends like Cale Zima (local favorite, sweetest kid in snowboarding!), Phil Damianakes, Bode Merrill, and Dan Brisse. We are a lucky city to have all of these great riders blowing up (and those are just some of the guys!), and to watch them be supported by all of their friends makes me proud to be a local.

I won't ruin the movie for you, but I will tell you that Dan Brisse's BUILDING TO BUILDING GAP is incredible, Nicolas Mueller continues to be one of the most creative riders out there, Wolle Nyvelt gets down with the NoBoard, Travis Rice is a kook with jaw dropping skills to back it up, and you will want to say you knew who Bode Merrill was way back when.

Also, if you haven't checked out The Levitation Project, do so now. Great group of people, super talented crew of riders.

Last night we went for sushi (I have no idea why, but there is a big sushi/snowboard connection...) and toasted to Halloween chairs. A prediction, not a hope. Salt Lake City continues to be the place to be!

Peepshow Premiere

First there was Misschief Films and Chunkyknit Productions. Then Misschief became Runway, and Amber and Alexis and Co. are on to different projects. Riders like Esther Preda, Desiree Melancon and Sara Phillips wanted to take the realm of women's riding films in a different direction. These girls get gnarly, and they want you to know.

Peepshow is the new kid on the block, and are operating on the principle of "I get by with a little help from my friends." They don't have much for money, and they crash hard trying new urban combos, and unlike most movies, they leave all of the tough stuff in. It isn't like other movies, where you get a crash sequence, or a bail reel. You're seeing things as they happen, and you're seeing how hard it really is to back board a steep stair set, nosepress a concrete ledge, and land huge drops into deep powder (it's a lot harder than it seems!).

The goal of this crew isn't to prove anything to the bros. It's to show women that anyone can do this, with or without a lot of cash and flash. That's something we can all get behind.

Kershnar x Volcom

I love summer, don't get me wrong... but seeing stores changing their offerings to fall 2009 lines just brings excitement for winter! Ok, I may be getting a little ahead of myself. But from a fashion side of things, I just love being able to layer up. Fall and winter styles are my favs.

Volcom has revealed its fall 2009 line up and as you can see, the 80's and punk rock looks will endure through this winter.

I just love collaboration between artists and fashionware designers. Volcom featured artist series is just that. Here is a sick hoodie featuring artwork from Mike Kershnar. The hoodies is actually also part of Volcom's V-Co.logical series.

Here's a close up on the artwork. The tiger is one of Kershnar's fav animals. He used to track tigers in Nepal with his father!

Mike Kershnar's art can be displayed on your wall, worn on a t-shirt or plastered on your skate deck. I just love his statement of purpose, which starts off with "My name is Mike Kershnar and I believe life is to be lived. I believe we all have a gift to share with the world...." He created this piece (unfortunately it's sold) for a father who gave it as a gift to his daughter who was taking a job at an Oakland ER. As Mike describes it, the tiger is rushing out of turbulent water to bring healing. The painting is intended to inspire the daughter in all that she does in ER.

Another one is this "Snake Skate":

Kershnar's inspiration came from his own pet snake, Adam (great name) and how he feeds him mice on a weekly basis... But is also resulted from his collaboration with Element Skateboard. Johnny Schillreff, ES' founder, dreams of a skateboarding snake eating up Chuck E. Cheese!!

I'll take mine riding as soon as I'm back on the snow (now being in France!), or for a cruise along the beach! Here's a report straight from Salt Lake City's art, fashion & lifestyle shop owned by Laura Hadar, called FICE. The boutique opened April 2008 and is one of SLC's sweetest shop-stops. Today, if you are not living in or cruising through one this major hub of the US snowboard scene, well, there are good news my friend: FICE is now online. Check out their website.

I love going to boutiques. I love going to snowboard shops. When I get the opportunity to go to a snowboard lifestyle boutique in my neighborhood, it's pretty much the best thing ever. FICE has done a great job in a cool building in downtown SLC (It used to be a bike shop.) Being owned by Laura Hadar, it lends an instant "core" vibe, and she's definitely taken what she knows about snowboard-skate streetwear, and with her partner in crime Corey have stocked the store with plenty of hard to find goodies.

This photo shoot session reminds me of some good old days... The mood, vibe, location---and may I say EVERYTHING---about the photography supporting the intro of MOB's Spring fabulo-delicious designs remind me of this good ol' home session shoot taken in Boston round 2005!

Here's a shot in a Boston apt, with your everyday gal Mayta. That knitted hat rules. Its vine green here, but I also found it in a burgundy color... I just love this hat. Check out Goorin's model, which is close to this one.

The tank top with the scorpion--even though I am cancer-- is from Urban Outfitters. The kicks were pre-releases of Gravis' summer sneakers. And those pants.... ooooh so sweet with their waist band. So athletic looking cargos! H&M woman! And so are the pin stripe baggies in the pic below.

Rock baggy pinstripes with a wife beater and... Do YOU know them?! naaa, coz they are sooo Eur0pean: Buffalo kicks! Flaming hot. And here's another one: the double wrap studded belt?! Found it in France.

Is one of the most important amateur freestyle contest of Europe, the girls killed it at Tarter's snow park.The spanish riders Laia Vendrell and Suray Fernandez got the first and second place, and from Andorra, Anai Aleiz got the third place.

Munich-based Bogner is the official outfitter of the German Olympic ski team. Founder Willy Bogner, a former Olympic skier, got his start more than 70 years ago by importing Norwegian skis. He then launched his own line of windbreakers and other fashionable outdoor apparel with his wife, Maria. The company, now run by their son Willy Bogner, Jr., 65, introduced the "Gold Rush" helmet as part of its winter line. The headgear features a shock-absorbent inner shell and suede padding that keeps your head cool and dry.

What better way for Mode Snow to bring you the latest fashion news than by traveling to Paris to spot what's in the streets and in stores?! Yes, that's why I was offline over the New Year and only get to wish you happy 2009 today!

I'd like to kick off the year by listing a couple of posts from '08 that feature the goods that were so hot in Paris:
1. Fur Hats! For him and her, they all love it.
2. Droopy Beanies -- and as mentioned in that post, I owe the Goorin Brothers beanie, and got so many compliments from random strangers!
3. New Uggs -- funny enough, it was UK, USA and Australian tourists who were rocking these big time! I totally spotted the camo print on several occasions.
4. Spy Goggle - spotted these in the hottest sun glasses stores and the some of the sickest street fashion and second hand/thrift stores (so hip in Paris by the way) many of them being located around Etienne Marcel (awesome shopping area in central Paris).

Pro-Keds was established in 1949 as the athletic brother of Keds. The footwear line was then primarily geared towards basketball. Their first product was the classic Royal. The kick was a canvas basketball shoe in high and low tops and featured the distinctive red and blue power stripe towards the front/toe of the sneaker.
As old time favorites make a come back, Pro-Keds has reintroduced the Royal Hi Canvas. Here it is for women, in white/yellow gradient. It is the women's version of the iconic Pro-Ked Royal.

Le Sportsac x Bfree

As we ladies know, bags are a must have accessory and I {HEART} Le Sportsac. Their website is so fun by the way!! I particularly love their intro of "Artist In Residence" collection. It's the result of a collaboration between Le Sportsac and Merijn Hos who is also known under his alias Bfree.

At first sight, the main characteristics in Bfree's work are his funky looking characters. Long legs, high-heel shoes, wild hair and (like moi) freckles! But as his biography details state: "when it comes to content, you will find a lot of elements such as ghosts, life and death, friendly and cute expressions, hidden messages. A lot of the work reflects on issues in todays society and everyday interaction between people in terms of escapism, organised confusion and friendship and loyalty."

For this feature, I want to focus on the 3 Day Weekender. That's because I am one of those unlucky weekend warriors who ends up fighting the crowds on the slopes, the lines for the lift, and the long wait at the bar for my après drink...
Noooo, not really... It's because I simply love the design, size and features of this bag! Above, the 3 Day Weekender in the B Free pattern. My fav. And the patterns' names for this collection or so rad! Yes! Be Free Baby!

Graffiti pioneer, Futura, continues his collaboration project with Burton. From first layers to outerwear, the latest release is the much awaited Vapor snowboard featuring a clean top sheet and Futura's colorful design on the bottom sheet. Sick custom signature!

As noted in Trenwatching.com's OFF=ON report, Spanish-born designer, Cristian Zuzunaga, believes the pixel is the icon of our time. Futura seems to have the same art sense when designing Burton's frist layer Sublimation Pant in Pixel Waterfall (here below). I want these for women...

So, now the question is, when are they going to transfer these fun prints to women's soft and hard goods? I want Futura!

From our visit to Mountain Riders shop in Stratton, VT, we brought you back the best from their bindings wall. Here featured is Rome's Strut Binding.

We love the details on this piece! The cork looking pattern on the high back and straps and the soft green wool-like material featured here and there (as I am pointing at it) give the Rome Strut in Tan a fun earthy feel to the look of this binding. A nice contrast to the wild patterns and electric fluo colors we have been featuring in recent posts.

Ride Snowboards likes to push the boundaries of tech with their constant binding and board innovation: slimewalls, canted footbed bindings, 1 strap bindings and more.

This year, they decided to up the ante by doing artist collaborations. The women got the best end of this deal with a head to toe setup by Japanese cult brand Tokidoki. With graphics inspired by robots and anime, and tech at the highest level in the industry, they are items worth getting and keeping in your collection.

The Canvas board is designed to be a Society for the ladies. It's got Ride's patented Slimewalls to dampen the feel, carbon stringers, and the new "Pop Stix" to bounce you off kickers. It's a fantastic all-mountain ride.

The Scarlet Boot is new for this year with boa lacing, heat moldable liners, and furry lining for a plush, comfy feel.

The Zeta binding is the highest-end women's binding from Ride. It's light as a feather, super damp, and the comfy straps are like none you've felt before.

When paying a visit to Stratton's Mountain Riders shop (Vermont), we spent the time these bindings deserved checking them out. Burton's Escapades, my all time favs, look SO HOT this year! Evolution towards perfection

For the '07 season Burton introduced the Ride suit and it was an excellent first try. Minor issues such as super narrow sleeve openings and pockets too small to be useful were fixed by '08 when Burton rolled out the Beecher snow suit. However, gone was the long sleek cut and in its place a was a new 'choke me when I sit down' fit. Great for those into asphyxiation, not great for falling in pow.

With B By Burton's '09 United One Piece, they have united all the good bits of each suit and nixed all the bad. Fit is dialed, the functionality is spot on and they've even thrown in some upgrades.

The United suit has a convenient retractable pass pocket on the sleeve, suspenders so you can unzip and hike jacket down, and bombproof 20k/20k material to keep you warm any dry under any conditions.

Available in bright white (not for chicks who ride hard or go through that muddy parking lot), marigold (you won't get out of anyone's sight on a snowy blizzard day), and faded black jacquard with washed prints (as shown here on the left).

For our first "featured shop" post, we made a visit to Stratton's Mountain Riders Shop in Vermont, USA. Wild prints are the flavor of the season as well as fluo colors. Based on this trend, our eyes immediately landed on DC's Zephyr pants in Raspberry Plaid . What can I say, the baggy cut, suspenders, loud colors and plaid prints were just the combo we needed to call it a hot topic!

The mega flare of these pants can be reduced by zipping up the bottom of the pants. I love this feature when off the slopes; it prevents dragging your pants in the mud and from ripping them apart. But when on the snow, the extra flare is what it's all about. Even sweeter, DC included their "shant control" feature. Basically, you can pull on a cord located in your pocket to pull up and keep up the bottom back part of your pants! So no more dreading the muddy parking lots.

I like to rock my pants baggy, so I tried on a size above mine. The waist can be adjusted to fit girls like me who like it comfy, but not loose. I don't wanna lose my pants while I am riding!
If you like your pants to have a slimmer and more flattering cut, stick to your true size. The DC's Zephyr pants have the cut you are looking for.

The DC's Zephyr pants feature DC's Exotex 10K waterproof shell that will keep you dry. The 10000g breathable shell will prevent uncomfortable sweat.

The Look: What jacket do you wear with these? Check out the color of my t-shirt! That's bringing out the subbtle cyan from the plaid pattern. I would go with a jacket of solid color that brings out this cool blue. Another funky option: a white jacket. The plaid prints are so wild, keep it on the solid colors for the jacket. You can always match your pants with DC's jacket featuring the same Raspberry Plaid Pattern.

The DC's Zephyr pants are also available in monogram/oak for the more conservative gals, and in raspberry, for the hot color without the wild print.

Analog K14 ~ On Snow Spotting

Here is Suzanne Larson, Berkeley student and Tahoe local rocking the darn hot AG K14--is it me or it sounds like a deadly weapon!??! Heck yeah, just check out how fun she looks in the suit! She's definitely going to stand out from the crowd...

Thanks for the pose lady! Good to know that the AG K-14 guarantees you to be dry, when there is no way for the outer elements to get down your pants. Yup, Analog stopped making women specific outerwear like 2 or 3 years ago... but who says we chicks can't make this outerwear--and particularly one piece suits--look this hot?!

There are those of us who know how cyclical fashion is... well, this time the 80's are making an even stronger and wilder come back than the 07/08 season... Hot fluo colors are the flavor of these ZED goggles from SPY Optics. Pink and lime green featured on the Pop Rocks (shown above) are sure to make heads turn. Careful though, they'll probably pay more attention to your goggles than what you're talking about!!

Do you rock the rapper steez on the slopes? Well they made the matching goggles. Shown above, the Zed Yo! 80's Rap goggles feature basic colors, but funky patterns. Love the Spy label on this one!

These are sizzling hot. The Zed Blue Voltage (above) also features fluo colors in an exotic--and electric--pattern. I chose these Zed models with the Rose lens with Silver Mirror, which is for mostly sunny weather. The cool part is that your Zed goggles will come with an additional lens bringing more functionality to your accessory.

The Zed goggle will fit with most ski and snowboard helmets, but be sure to choose the helmet's color carefully! White or black are always your best bet. Also, I recommend wearing a jacket that either brings out one of the colors from your goggles--try a solid color jacket--or, similar to the helmet, is an easy match. You can go as wild as you like with the pants, but try to avoid major color clash. You can always drop a line or comment and we'll get back to you with more suggestions on how to rock the ZEDs.

Warmth + Style = ONE... Piece!

How many times have you been out riding and gotten up from a tumble only to shake snow out of your jacket, dig it out of your pants, and flick it from under your belt? It’s a story as old as time. We got snow gaiters on our jackets, and those helped, until you really went flying! Still, though, some of us always wished those one piece ski outfits would come back in style. The fashion gurus at Burton, L1TA, Roxy, DC, and Analog finally listened to our pleas, and decreed that the one piece was IN again!

This year, I have my heart absolutely set on the Burton Veil suit in Lime Zebra (shown on the left). It’s the loudest, most out-there thing I could ever hope to ride in, and I love it! The fit is a bit shorter this year, so if you are a short girl, you’ll be in heaven. If you’re tall, order a size up for maximum flair.

For a really baggy fit, L1TA one piece suits are well-suited for girls who like a lot of room to move around! Here's the L1TA Don't Cry full suit in leaf camo (shown on the right).

The Roxy suits are sized slim, so same goes here for sizing as Burton's. Shown below is Roxy's Bling (oh yeah!) with brown dots. Rock the low rise fit, funcky double o-ring belt and removable faux fur on the hood.

One pieces give you all the best of pants and jackets, without having to worry about anything, except remembering to tie the sleeves around your waist at potty time! (It will keep the arms from dragging on the yucky ground.) In short, if you like powder and high fashion, pick yourself a one-piece and rock out in supa dupa dry style!

Anon's Solace model is designed to comfortably fit a ladies face. Just choose your print carefully. I like mine to be on the wild side. The Zebra print is definitely my fav.

Some of us girls happen to find a better fit in men's models. The Anon model that happens to fit me best is the Realm. I am thinking of opting for these this season: the Vintage Realms. Of course, that will be one of the "must have" pairs in addition to a pair reminiscent of the radical 80's...

October being the Breast Cancer Awareness month, we can't help but keep it the topic of the day. Here's a cool report from Ane, Mode Snow Trend Spotter based in Spain:

Keep-A-Breast foundation is kicking off its online auction today. The eBay auction ends October 28. You'll be bidding for the coolest casts created from real models' busts. The casts are then painted by artists. They're real works of art and support a great cause.

Ninja Turtle Mittens ~ Kawabunga!

They're back! First introduced under Burton's Analog brand that last winter (2005) Analog designed and carried women's apparel, these sexy fun gloves have been appearing under their B By Burton line these past few years.

This here was my pair of women's ninja mittens from Analog; a lucky find for Winter 05/06-so hot! Sad story... They were snagged away from me after briefly leaving them unattended in the lodge. Too hot of a mitten I guess...

The sweetest features included the separated index finger, which made nose blowing, nose picking, finger pointing, iPod music changing, zipper opening, cell phone calling, picture taking, strapping in... easier than a regular mitten. Even funkier was the zipper on the index finger. You get the functionality of the glove and the warmth of the mitten all in one.

No wonder they were snagged away from me... :(

They have been getting sexier, more technical and practical with the years! These here were B by Burton's 2007 introduction of ninja mitten:
